It's no secret that I love a good headdress :). Even though dancing with them in non-film situations can be tricky, I still give them a whirl and always feel extra glamorous and happy when I do.
The one that the legendary Egyptian belly dance star Taheya Karioka (كاريوكا تحية) wears in this clip has lovely pearl-like details framing her face. These gorgeous vintage film clips are an endless source of costuming inspiration! We are not at all limited to the modern bra-and-a-skirt combination if other things capture our fancy. There are so many sparkly, creative coverings and chiffon concoctions in these films.
The description of the film from The CaroVan is below the clip. I kept the whole thing in there because it is very typical of some of the Egyptian films that I have been fortunate enough to see. Lots of drama, and the dancer often does not have a happy ending like in American films.
And it goes without saying that the dancing of Taheya Karioka is lovely. Enjoy these precious two minutes and have a wonderful rest of the week.
Happy Dancing!
